Evening Optimsit Club of Sumter - Projects

The Evening Optimist Club of Sumter manages over 15 community projects every year. Here is a listing of a few of them.

Top Projects

  • Cycles for Christmas
    Bicycle Giveaway for needy Kids
    Every Saturday just before Christmas, over 500 people gather in the Westside Baptist Church Gym to give away apx. 200 bikes to underprivileged kids in the Sumter Community.
  • Youth Appreciation Awards Banquet
    We recognize outstanding achievements in young men and women in the Sumter Schools. One Male and One Female is crowned Optimist Youth of the year. The winners are based on excellent grades, community involvement, and outstanding leadership in sports and academics
  • Essay and Oratorical Contest
    Young Men and Women compete for these two sought after awards each year. These are national competitions that can take the candidates all the way to the Optimist Headquarters in St. Louis, MO
  • Scholarships
  • The Club, based on monies raised from concessions, gives back to the USC FireAnts Baseball Team for individual scholarships
  • Childhood Cancer Campaign - Our Club manages several fundraisers through-out the year to help us donate and contribute towards Childhood Cancer. We are integrated with the local Hospital and Caner Organizations to help this very worthy cause.
  • Optimist International Junior Golf - Our Club sponsors locally one girl and one boy to qualify for the Optimist SC Junior Golf Tournament. If they win, they can then compete in the International Competition in Florida.
